Favorite 9 books of '09

Here is a list of the best books I read in '09, in my opinion of course! They aren't in any certain order either because I loved them all to much to try and figure out which ones were better than others.
How it Ends by Laura Wiess

All Hanna's wanted since sophomore year is Seth. She's gone out with other guys, even gained a rep for being a flirt, all the while hoping cool, guitar-playing Seth will choose her. Then she gets him — but their relationship is hurtful, stormy and critical, not at all what Hanna thinks a perfect love should be. Bewildered by Seth's treatment of her and in need of understanding, Hanna decides to fulfill her school's community service requirement by spending time with Helen, her terminally ill neighbor, who she's turned to for comfort and wisdom throughout her life. But illness has changed Helen into someone Hanna hardly knows, and her home is not the refuge it once was. Feeling more alone than ever, Hanna gets drawn into an audiobook the older woman is listening to, a fierce, unsettling love story of passion, sacrifice, and devotion. Hanna's fascinated by the idea that such all-encompassing love can truly exist, and without her even realizing it, the story begins to change her.

Until the day when the story becomes all too real...and Hanna's world is spun off its axis by its shattering, irrevocable conclusion.

     2.   The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong

If you had met me a few weeks ago, you probably would have described me as an average teenage girl — someone normal. Now my life has changed forever and I'm as far away from normal as it gets. A living science experiment — not only can I see ghosts, but I was genetically altered by a sinister organization called the Edison Group. What does that mean? For starters, I'm a teenage necromancer whose powers are out of control; I raise the dead without even trying. Trust me, that is not a power you want to have. Ever.

Now I'm running for my life with three of my supernatural friends — a charming sorcerer, a cynical werewolf, and a disgruntled witch — and we have to find someone who can help us before the Edison Group finds us first. Or die trying.

     3. The Hunger Games and Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Sixteen-year-old Katniss is smart, athletic, and fast. She can take down a rabbit with a bow and arrow, hitting it straight through the eye. Will these skills be enough to survive the Hunger Games?

Suzanne Collins, the author of the middle-grade fantasy series The Underland Chronicles begins anew, exploring a future landscape that will be familiar to devotees of science fiction's dystopic strain. In a nation called Panem, which occupies the landmass that is the present United States, a parasitical fascist Capitol dominates 12 conquered districts. There was a thirteenth district but it was obliterated during a rebellion. The totalitarian government keeps the subjected populations in line by threatened devastation, starvation, and brutality.

     4. The Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead

St. Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school—it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St. Vladimir's—the very place where they're most in danger. . .

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy's ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world's fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

     5.   Willow by Julia Hoban

Seven months ago, on a rainy March night, sixteen-year- old Willow's parents drank too much wine and asked her to drive them home. They never made it—Willow lost control of the car and her parents died in the accident. Now she has left behind her old home, friends, and school, and blocks the pain by secretly cutting herself. But when Willow meets Guy, a boy as sensitive and complicated as she is, she begins an intense, life-changing relationship that turns her world upside down

Told in an arresting, fresh voice, Willow is an unforgettable novel about one girl's struggle to cope with tragedy, and one boy's refusal to give up on her.

     6. Cracked Up To Be by Courtney Summers

A debut YA novel from a talented young author, this is the story of Parker Fadley—a girl too smart for her own good who, after one tragic night, decides to reject the popular life in exchange for one of solitude. (This is a REALLY short summary)

     7. The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

In Mary's world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary’s truths are failing her. She’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future—between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?

     8. Purge by Sarah Darer Littman

Janie Ryman hates throwing up. So why does she binge eat and then stick her fingers down her throat several times a day? That’s what the doctors and psychiatrists at Golden Slopes hope to help her discover. But first Janie must survive everyday conflicts between the Barfers and the Starvers, attempts by the head psychiatrist to fish painful memories out of her emotional waters, and shifting friendships and alliances among the kids in the ward.

     9. Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson

“Dead girl walking,” the boys say in the halls.
“Tell us your secret,” the girls whisper, one toilet to another.
I am that girl.
I am the space between my thighs, daylight shining through.
I am the bones they want, wired on a porcelain frame.

Lia and Cassie were best friends, wintergirls frozen in matchstick bodies.
But now Cassie is dead. Lia’s mother is busy saving other people’s lives.
Her father is away on business. Her stepmother is clueless. And the voice inside Lia’s head keeps telling her to remain in control, stay strong, lose more, weigh less. If she keeps on going this way – thin, thinner, thinnest – maybe she’ll disappear altogether.

In her most emotionally wrenching, lyrically written book since the National Book Award finalist Speak, best-selling author Laurie Halse Anderson explores one girl’s chilling descent into the all-consuming vortex of anorexia.

So what were some of your favorite books this year?

Okay, now I'm done!

I just finished my New Year's layout...though it definitely won't last an entire year! Though I may keep it longer than some of them because I can't stop looking at it! So what do you guys think? I'm crazy about owls so I am in love with it! But the main reason I picked it was because my sister and I think the header looks like something out of a vintage coloring book, no?

Later I hope to have my favorite books of '09 post up, but I may not be able to post it tonight because my dad is making me go to this stupid neighborhood New Year bash.

Hopefully I'll be back later tonight!

Just Bear With Me...

I did a boo-boo. While trying to find a new layout for the New Year I accidently deleted my old one so I'm quickly trying to set one up. Please bear with me until I get it done!

Everything To Do With New Years

I know everyone says this when they New Year is coming right around the corner, but I can't believe how fast this year has gone by! Though when I look back on it and remember everything that has happened I'm not surprised that 2010 is here already!

This year I...
  • Went to my first book signing (and then some)
  • Went to my first book festival (and then one)
  • Made some AMAZING friends from the blogging community
  • Had my first year anniversary (though I didn't celebrate it properly)
  • Had my first contest (and I hope to have many more in the new year!)
  • Took part in my first book tour (and still am)
  • Opened a blog makeover site (though I had to shut it down because it was taking up too much of my time!)
There's probably more blog-related stuff the I forgot to post but that's all I can remember! Me and my bad memory *tsk*

Next year I hope to...

  • WRITE MORE REVIEWS (I've been totally slacking on that!)
  • Be more friendly (I'm can be a bit of a hermet sometimes)
  • Post more interview (so if you would like to do an interview with me, just email me and we'll talk)
  • Have more contests
  • Get a job (which means more money for book and contests)
I know there must be something else I'm missing, but like I said, I'm a scatterbrained girl!

I hope everyone has had the best year and an ever better one next year!

Book/Movie News

I'm a happy girl! Yesterday (or the week before, I don't know) Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal (or Perfect)  Snoggings was released on dvd in the US! It's been out in the UK for about a year and a half now, but it wasn't released in the US until yesterday. So go out and buy it, get it for Christmas, JUST WATCH IT. I've already seen and I loved it, but I haven't read the books in years so I don't remember if it sticks close to the plot or not. But it's incredibly hilarious and so much fun to watch!

AND not to mention that trailer for Sex and the City 2 was released yesterday too! I'm screeching fan girl! I've seen the movie and watched the show and I still can't get enough. Which is why I can't wait for the second movie! It will be released in theaters on June 3rd. SO FAR AWAY!

It Went Well!

I just got back from the interview and I'm surprised by how well it went! I walked into the store (did I tell you guys that it was Rack Room Shoes?) about ten minutes early and asked for the manager because I had an interview, she came to greet me and we went straight to the back to start up the interview. Now, this was my very first interview after over a year of searching for a job, so I was really nervous to say the least. But once I the interview started I got over my nervouseness (is that even a word?) and it went great from there.

There was only one question that I may have shitted up but it was small and nothing terrible, it's just that I could've had a better answer. Nothing bad!

But I'll know later this week if I got the job, so I'll let you guys know the second I do!

I'ma Nervous and Excited!

I would really appreciate it if you guys could keep me in your thoughts tomorrow because I just got a job interview at Rack Room Shoes. This is, like, huge for me because I've been searching for over a year now and this is my first interview! So let's hope that I don't screw it up!

25 Days of Christmas: Present Eleven

I've been kind of terrible about posting these, but I've been insanely busy this past week or so because of the crazy amounts of shopping I've been doing. My mom is a bit of a procrastinator so I have to take over the role of "Christmas Shopping Buddy" so I'm the one who gets the ideas, write down the lists, find the stores where you can buy the presents and such. So I'm super busy. Not to mention that I'm the Christmas wrapper too! But I enjoy doing that so I don't mind wrapping all (and I mean all. I even wrap my own presents after they have been boxed) the presents. So I may not be able to post as much as I would like this month.

Not to mention that I'm going to Gatlinburg on Wednesday and staying until Friday! Busy, busy, busy!

Today is just a mish-mash of things I've found on the internet. Enjoy!

25 Days of Chrismas: Present Ten

Today I'm posting about something really creative that I heard about recently. I can't remember where I heard it so I can't give credit to anyone! Sorry!

I heard about someone keeping a map and tacking all of the place that they've been to through books. Which is completely genius and really cheap. I've decided that I'm going to start doing this from now on, but you may want to get a tack board so you don't put a lot of wholes in the wall! It's so much fun and a cool way to keep track of the places that your books take you to.

Present Number Ten:

Book Map.

25 Days of Christmas: Present Eight

I'm sorry that I didn't get one of these out yesterday, but I had no time for myself. From the moment I was up until I went to bed, I was doing something. So I had no time to post 25 Days, sorry guys!

But I've decided that I'm going to keep all of my presents easy-to-find internet stuff. I know I have already, but I just want to make that clear. Everything I post will be available to buy on the internet. I just want to make it easier on you guys, in case you might want to buy something I've posted. It'll be a quick click away!
