Selena Gomez has been chosen to play Hanna Baker. I'm not so sure how she'll do with this part. I've only seen her in her Disney show (guilty pleasure) and the acting in that isn't too difficult to do, so with a serious role like this it's got me wondering how she'll do. I think she is a little cutie and I hope she'll do well with this...for the sake of the book.I'll keep you guys posted if I find out any more information about this movie.
EXCLUSIVE: Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment have acquired the Jay Asher novel 13 Reasons Why as a star vehicle for Selena Gomez. Strike's Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing with Mandy Teefey of July Moon Productions.
Jennifer O'Kieffe has been set to adapt the novel, about a shy California high school student who returns from school to find a box waiting on his doorstep. It contains seven cassette tapes recorded by Hanna Baker, the classmate he had a crush on. Before she committed suicide, Hannah sent the tapes to one classmate with instructions to pass them on to a list of students like a chain letter. The tapes explain to 13 people how they played a role in her death. The book was a bestseller when published in 2007 by the Penguin Books young adult imprint RazorBill. Strike's Kristel Laiblin is exec producer.
Gomez, who stars in the Disney Channel series The Wizards of Waverly Place, starred in the Tom Bezucha-directed Monte Carlo. She's repped by CAA. (Taken from Deadline.com)

Oh... uh... I'll skip the negative comments and just say that I hope they don't Disney-fy the movie. I would like to see Selena in an uber-serious, edgy role.
if you read Jay Asher's blog he wrote a wonderful post about why the book hadn't been done yet and why he thinks Selena will make an excellent Hannah. Exciting!
They shouldn't be able to Disney-fy the movie because of what's in it, unless they plan on taking out parts. They may take away swears, but maybe not. I hope they don't, the books to good for that.
